At our regular meeting last Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting current Nebraska Secretary of State, and fellow Rotarian, Bob Evnen. He took office on January 19, 2018, after John Gale and serves as Nebraska’s 27th SOS. He was re-elected in November 2022 which is the same time an amendment to the NE constitution to require an ID when voting was proposed. Legislature passed a law last May to require it, and next month’s primary election will be the first time an ID is required to vote. The most common ID accepted is a driver’s license as it must have a name and a photo. Other acceptable ones are a state ID, US passport, military ID, A hospital, assisted living, or nursing home record, or a Nebraska college or University ID. You cannot bring a birth certificated, out of state driver’s license or college ID, social security card, utility bill or bank statement, or your voter registration acknowledgement card. If you forget it, you will fill out a provisional ballot and must bring your ID in person to the county election office within one week for your ballot to count. Or you can go back home and get it It’s also important to note you can obtain a free state ID from the DMV for voting purposes so cost is not a factor. For more information, go to voterID.Nebraska.gov for all the details. Thanks for speaking to us, Bob! We also want to thank Crete native Jackie Ourada for organizing Mr. Evnen's visit with our club. She is a Communications Specialist in the Secretary of State's office in Lincoln! Our next meeting is Wednesday April 24th at 5:30 at Doane University. Please plan to attend and hear from our very own Marilea Theim, Director of the Crete Public Schools Foundation. Other things coming up is the selection of a Rotary District Grant Project, which needs to be completed by early May. So please let the club know if you have project ideas. Also please plan to help at our annual spring highway cleanup which is scheduled for Wednesday May first! Have a great week!
