Happy Easter everyone!

It was a "jam" packed meeting this Wednesday. We were honored to have our District 5650 Governor Kathryn Schubert, and her daughter and assistant, Isabelle, join us. The Governor spoke to the club about several items the district is focusing on as we near the end of the Rotary year. She also thanked our club for our Foundation giving for the year. Additionally we were pleased to have our District Assistant Governor, Clay Ehlers, join us as well!

The highlight of the meeting was the official induction of two new Crete Rotary members. Laura Hughes and Erin Vyhnalek were sworn in in a brief ceremony and given their "New Member" packets. They both spoke to the club briefly about their professions, families and hobbies. We are so pleased to have them in the club and know they will greatly enhance the club's capabilities to contribute to the betterment of our community and planet! Welcome Laura and Erin!

Our speaker for the meeting was Nicole Stoner. She is an ISA Certified Arborist and an Associate Extension Educator with UNL Extension. She gave us a slide show of best practices for establishing a thriving vegetable garden. She also brought us up to date with the expansion of the Emerald Ash Borer's territory in our part of the state and available methods of treatment. Nicole finished with a helpful Q & A session. Thank you, Nicole!

Several club topics were discussed including reminding members to think of District Grant project ideas for the coming Rotary year.

On Saturday several members helped out at the Crete Chamber of Commerce annual Easter Egg hunt at the CAMC. Weather conditions were not as warm as last year but certainly tolerable for March and a good crowd of youngsters and their parents attended. The kids made quick work of finding the eggs and the candy inside!

Our next meeting is April 10th at 5:30 pm at Doane. We have a special guest as our presenter. Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen will speak to us about the new voter ID laws that will take effect at the May 14th primary election. Please plan to attend!
