Last week we heard from Scout Master, Adam Ward, to answer some questions about a second Rotary sponsor for the boy scouts. The Crete Boy Scout Troop 212 is looking into getting a separate division of the troop for girls. This is something other Boy Scout troops in the United States have done for various reasons. In Crete, though, they're considering it to allow girls who are into more outdoor activities participate in those activities. He was clear it's separate from the Girl Scout troop here in Crete as they don't teach some of the outdoor skills or activities. This would allow the girls to learn other skills. Karen Drevo is our scout liason, and, if this were to be accepted, the troop would need another sponsor. The commitment for each sponsor includes: - Cost of $80 a year which covers leadership courses, youth protection, and safety.
- Passing a background check
- Attending monthly board meetings (usually the first Monday of the month at 7pm)
- Optional: attend campouts and meetings, or district council meetings
If you're interested in being a sponsor, please reach out to Shay or Karen for the next steps. This isn't something we'd need a decision on until next Spring, however. Thank you, Adam, for answering questions and sharing information about this need. Upcoming events include: Thank you all for your continued support of our projects and fundraisers!
