Highlights from our meeting last Wednesday were the awarding of the first annual Golden Wheel Award to Russ Sears and a Foundation/Polio fund report from Julie Lacy, which included a zoom conversation with a very special guest, District Polio chair, Gretchen Bren.  She shared stories of the immunization trips she's been on and how much she enjoyed her time giving the vaccine to children in Nigeria and other countries.  It's powerful to hear about the people she's met and the children she's held while giving them the drops of the vaccine.

Rotary began their mission to eradicate Polio in 1985.  As of today, there have been two strains eradicated, and all that's left is the third.  She reminded us that giving to the Polio fund is different from giving to the Foundation.  The money we give goes to medical companies to keep the research going--we are essentially the fundraisers of the organizations.  In addition, every dollar we give is matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.  Rotary is so close to eliminating Polio, and your giving helps!

Thanks to everyone that volunteered for our two service projects this week, the Elementary Book Fair and the Scout Pancake Feed.

Please consider registering for the District Conference at the end of March. Itineraries for the conference and registration information is available on the district website.

Our next meeting is on March 8th at the VFW and will feature Jim Johnson speaking on his involvement in Constru Casa, an organization that builds homes in Guatemala. Please plan to attend!
