November Birthdays: Jack Thompson 11/27
November Anniversaries: Judy Harms 11/26, Craig Snyder 11/29
Wednesday evening we welcomed Brian Moon, former District Governor and current Foundation Chair of our District. He shared useful information about The Rotary Foundation and how donated funds are used.
At the 1917 convention, outgoing Rotary President Arch Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International.
The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary, we tap into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into
our priorities, such as
eradicating polio and
promoting peace. Foundation
grants empower Rotarians to approach challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact.
Crete Rotary has a goal of all members contributing to The Rotary Foundation. Any amount is appreciated. Our club goal is $2500, which is an average of $100 per member. We also are collecting to eradicate polio in the world. We would like to average $35 per member, making our goal $875. We will be collecting for this Rotary year through June, 2017. Please consider a contribution.
The Social Committee is planning the Christmas Party and needs input on other social events.
Grocery Grab is nearing the end! Members decided that the Tuesday before Thanksgiving would be a great time to sell outside of WalMart. If you would like to sell then, let Jim Fahrnbruch know. Times are Nov. 22, 4 – 5 pm; and 5 pm – 6 pm. (other times are possible) All tickets and money needs to be turned in by the November 30th drawing!! District Governor Gary Bren will be drawing the winner for the Grocery Grab on Nov. 30th!!
Jack Thompson was our drawing winner. He donated $6 to The Rotary Foundation and $6 to Polio. He could not find the Queen of Spades. We will try again next week (Nov. 30) with the accumulated pot starting at $193. It should reach $200!!
