We met at the offices of The Crete News for a tour of the facilities led by editor Jenn Lampila. Fourteen Rotarians and one guest attended.
We started in the front office where they have numerous "Days Gone By" photos.
Jenn showed Tom Parker and Judy Harms a "morgue book" that is basically an archive of old copies of the newspaper.
The May 4, 1922 edition of the newspaper included a front page story about the birth of the Crete Rotary Club.
Copy layout is done on the computer as opposed to the old "cut and paste" format.
After explaining how the newspaper is formated, Jenn took us into the back room where the printing is done.
The printing presses are used for black/white copy. Color copy is limited to the front and back of a section and is typically contracted out to larger printers.
