Nebraska State Senator Laura Ebke gave us an overview and her observations on the recently completed legislative session.

Nebraska State Senator Laura Ebke

Senator Ebke gave us an overview of the 2015 Nebraska Legislative session.  She started with a summary of "big issues" of the year.  These included:
•Winner Take All
•Voter ID
•DACA Drivers Licenses
•Death Penalty Repeal
•Helmet Law Repeal
•Gas Tax
•Zoo Bill
•Prison Reform/Mandatory Sentencing
•Medicaid Expansion
•Public Vote on Committee Chairs
•Student Learner Wage Bill (failed)
•Joint Public Agency Bill (Ebke Bill)
•Uniformity in State/Municipality Firearms Laws/Ordinances (deferred)

The most controversial issues were probably the three on which the Legislature overrode the Governor's vetoes.  Those were the increase of taxes on gasoline, the repeal of the death penalty, and allowing driver's licenses for "Dream Act" people.
