Last Week- 17 members attended our Wednesday evening meeting. Sign up sheets were passed around for four of our upcoming volunteer projects- Youth Cabin Clean up, CAMC Health Fair, Week of the Young Child and Elementary School Carnival. I appreciate the high percentage of members that signed up for the various projects. We have all the volunteers we need for the Carnival, but still need some additional help for the other three. Therefore on Monday I will email the sign up sheets for those three projects and hope we can get the numbers we need. Janelle won the weekly drawing and donated $11 to both our club's Polio and Foundation funds. Thanks Janelle! She did not however draw the Queen of Spades and the pot grows. We were honored that our Assistant District Governor, Clay Ehlers, attended our meeting and we appreciate all of the support he has given our club over the past couple of years. He also spoke briefly in support of club members attending the District Training Seminar coming up on May 12th in Lincoln. One of our own, Jim Johnson, was our speaker and he, along with 14 other individuals (one being a guest at the meeting, Ron Sack), recently went on a missions trip to Guatemala to build four homes for families in a town called Xepatan. They were blessed to have four fluent Spanish speakers, so the group divided into four groups to help build the homes. They were able to accomplish this in one week with the help of some family members who will reside in the home, a mason for each home, neighbors and friends. The missions trip is coordinated by an organization named Constru Casa and Nebraska Friends of Constru Casa are concentrating on work for the Xepatan Project. The organization helps build homes for low income individuals provided they meet a certain criteria. They interview with social workers to ensure no abuse is present in the home and the children are going to school. They then meet with a local committee to ensure the homes are going to well-deserving families. This Week- We will hold a regular meeting at noon Tuesday at TBH. We will not have a speaker and will conduct a "club assembly". I would like to review where we are in meeting our club goals in both participation and financial giving. And we should have ample time to discuss any other Rotary topics any member may have. We will also have our sign up sheets available for more sign-uppers. See you there!
