Our Program last week: Kyle McGowan came to speak to us about his role as the ambassador for the Nebraska Council of School Administrators. Previously holding the principal and superintendent positions of Crete, he's well aware of the great things happening in Crete's school system as well as the challenges. As an ambassador, however, he gets to compile information about all schools in Nebraska. He also examines and interprets statistics affecting all schools in the state. This information is used for speaking engagements or for educators to use for their own purposes.
While his main focus is outlining the positive things happening in the public school system, he also has to address the politics going on behind the scenes. One challenge brought up is charter schools. It is another education option for families, but takes away from funding for public schools--which are already in great need of money. Coming up with compromises from both sides can be difficult. Kyle would much rather focus on the positive aspects of the school system.
Drawing: This week our Pot starts at $253.00. Vicki won the draw, but did not find the queen of spades! The deck will start at 20 cards. She donated her two $10 winnings to Polio. This week, maybe!
Dues are due! Remember that our semi-annual dues are due ($65). We have to send them in to Rotary International by January 31. Pay to Jim Johnson as soon as possible. Thanks.
Rotary Foundation: We collect for the Foundation’s Annual Fund and Polio Eradication. So far this year we have collected $828 for the Annual Fund. Our goal is $2500. Our goal for Polio is $875, and we have collected $138. The Foundation Committee will be informing you of the activities of the Foundation in the upcoming weeks. Please consider a donation.
Remember: Rotary is a participation activity, not a spectator sport.
