At Youth Cabin – 5:30 pm
Family Picnic
This week:  Family Picnic at the Youth Cabin (3 miles south of the golf course on Iris).  The Picnic starts at 5:30 pm.  See the upgrades to the cabin and grounds.  Enjoy fellowship with fellow Rotarians and their families.  Dine on the Rotary Picnic Tables (if the weather is bad, we will be in the Cabin!)

In January, Jim Johnson went on a mission trip to Guatemala.  It was through an organization called Constru Casa and the group spent the week building a new house for a deserving family. It takes a week to build a house, but they did find some time to explore the towns.  They began in Guatemala City and went to Antigua.  They worked in a town with only one main road called Xepetan, and stayed in a town 21 miles away called Panajachel.
The group traveled with a native Guatemalan named Rigoberto who currently works at Farmland.  They learned a lot about the people and culture through him.  Some interesting facts are: there are 29 volcanoes, many of them active, the literacy rate of Guatemala is only 79.4%, and the children typically only go to school through 6th grade.  Then they go to work since the monthly income is typically only about 200 dollars.
Jim obviously had a wonderful time on his trip.  If you have any questions or want to know more, please ask!  He'd love to answer them!

Happy Anniversary Vicky Johnson (5/3)!

Drawing:  Tom Sorensen won the draw, but he didn’t find the Queen of spades.  Tom donated $24.00 to Polio.  Our pot starts this week at $67.00!

We are looking for a President-Elect to follow Jack Thompson.  You would be President in 2018 – 19.  Please see Jack Thompson for details.  Members who have been President:  Vicky J., Tom S., Geoff (X2), Cody, Jim J. (X2), Chris, Tom P, Bret S., Jim F. (X2)

Rotary Foundation:  We have a new Paul Harris Fellow.  Stephanie Kruse was honored at our last meeting with a certificate, medallion and pin.  Stephanie has contributed $1000.00 to the Rotary Foundation since she joined Rotary.  Thanks Stephanie!

Rotary Foundation Grant:  We need to decide on a grant project for this year.  Jack Thompson is working on ideas for an entrance for the Community Gardens area.  Other ideas are welcome.  The grant application needs to be submitted by May 31.
