Last Week- Eleven members attended our noon time meeting. Geoff won the drawing and donated $6 to our Scholarship Fund. The cumulative pot is still intact and grew to $174+ for our next drawing. Guests: We had two guests join us from the Lincoln South Rotary Club, Chan and Suzanne Tyrrell. They came to tell us about an upcoming fundraiser their club is sponsoring. Gary Kuck has a museum in Lincoln of vintage and muscle cars where the fundraiser will be held. The proceeds will be going towards scholarships of healthcare in Lincoln. There will be hors d'oevres served along with a cash bar, so they do ask you be over 21 if you will attend. There is, however, no program or any obligation to stay, but you are welcomed to tour the museum and look at come and go as you please! The event is on October 5th at 2251 Humphrey St in Lincoln. The tickets are $49 dollars and they are required for entry. If you want tickets, contact Chan and Suzanne at Lincoln South Rotary and they would be happy to send a ticket. Program: One of our own, Jenn Lampila, spoke to us about a project she's involved in with The Crete News: Windows to the Past. Her and Andy McCallister, sports editor with the paper, find or are gifted old photos taken in Crete, find the exact location, and take a picture in the same spot with the old picture lined up in the frame. Jenn says it can be time-consuming to get the right size in the picture. Sometimes they have to be scanned and rescanned, but she and Andy are passionate about the project and feel it's worth it. Some complications include cars driving by, the old pictures not having many people or much activity in them, or being photobombed by pedestrians on bicycles :) They got the idea from Brown University. They had similar pictures of campus buildings to show the contrast of the buildings and students then and now. They decided to showcase the past and present of Crete in a similar fashion. Jenn and Andy intend for it to be a summer project, so they're nearing the end of the series for the year. Catch their work in the next few editions of the paper and also next summer. (meeting notes courtesy of Janelle) This Week- Monday and Tuesday will be delivery days for the dictionaries we have traditionally provided to all 3rd graders in Crete and Dorchester. Thanks to those who signed up to help. See you at the meeting on Wednesday 5:30 at The Brew House.
