Rotary Work Project
Highway cleanup
Wednesday, 10/19/16
5:00 pm meet at CAMC

Crete Rotary is a group of community leaders who gather weekly to exchange ideas and help with the activities of our community.  We recycle aluminum and plastic, help the chamber at the Pumpkin Festival, do projects at the Youth Cabin and many other activities.  We also support Rotary International by contributing to Polio Eradication and other humanitarian programs worldwide.  I’m proud to be part of Crete Rotary.

Highway Cleanup is this week.  Our cleanup stretch is along Highway 33 from Boswell to a mile past Sid Dillion.  We need as many members as possible to make this an easier job!!!

We have a new member interested in Rotary!  The new pastor of the Lutheran Church, Ron Benson, will be inducted into the club soon during one of the upcoming Tuesday meetings.  Stay tuned to learn when!

CAMC Health Fair:  Thanks to all of the volunteers.  All of the spots to help are taken.  Consider getting your health screening and/or flu shots.

Grocery Grab is off and running.  If you haven’t picked up tickets yet, see Chris Duntz.  We are signing up to sell at Walmart on Saturday mornings.  We have three shifts (9 – 10 am), (10 – 11 am) and (11 – noon).  The Saturdays are Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov.5 and Nov. 12.  Let Jim F. know what shift(s) you would like.

Tom Parker won the draw again!  He donated his 8 dollar winnings to dictionaries but did not find the queen of spades.  The pot starts at 158 dollars for our next meeting on Tues. Oct. 25th at noon.

Members responsible for programs at meetings for November:   Mary G. and Jim J.

Our program last week was Steve Hensel, Chief of Police, Lisa Olivigni, the Director of the Library, and Dan Dunaway, Parks and Rec Director.  They came to speak to our group about an upcoming voting opportunity at this year's election.  There is a proposal to tear down the old Tabitha building on 15th and Grove and to build a new library, community room, storm shelter, and park area.  Additionally, a portion of the funds would be used to hire 2 new police officers in Crete.

Should this proposal pass, sales tax in Crete would raise 1/2 a percent.  Over the span of 25 years, this would generate   6 million dollars in additional revenue for Crete.  One third of that (2 million) would go to the Police Department to hire additional officers.  The remaining 4 million would be used to fund the new library/community center.

Karen Drevo listed Ann Howard's desk on Craig’s list.  We will see if we can get a buyer.
Our club now has a Facebook page!  If you are on Facebook, simply search Crete Rotary Club and like our page.  Don't forget to share on our own page to get the word out!  An event was created for the Pumpkin festival if you'd like to share that, as well.  Janelle McGinnis, Mariana Garcia, and Alec Engebretson will all be admins in the upcoming weeks, so if you have suggestions for the page, let one of them know.  It's brand new, so any ideas are welcomed.
