Last Week- 14 members attended our Tuesday noon meeting. Jim Fahrnbruch's Brother-In-Law, John Daniel was a guest at the meeting and won the drawing. He graciously donated $16 to our Polio Fund. He did not draw the QOS so the pot growth continues unabated. He is a member of the Rotary Club in Sandusky, Ohio. On Tuesday we welcomed fellow Rotarian from Seward, Liz Robak. She is the District Executive of the Boy Scouts. Her main duties include working with the preexisting scout troops to provide leadership training, and she also works with local schools to recruit interested students to groups close to them. Her jurisdiction is 8 counties in southeast Nebraska. She explained the national office of Boy Scouts is divided up into local councils, of which Nebraska has 4. There are 16 counties in a council, and that's where she fits in--she's in charge of the troops in 8 of those counties in this area. There are about 20 troop members in Crete, and 25-30 in the county. She shared that last year we had 3 Eagle Scouts! She spoke about the structure of the Boy Scouts in general, the distinction between the groups and ages (Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Exploring, and Adventuring), as well as the future of Boy Scouts. Most recently, the National Office announced they will be accepting a program for girls. The reason, Liz explained, was to accommodate single-parent households so they don't have to arrange for rides and childcare. Additionally, the Boy Scout structure appeals to some parents and children, including girls. Liz was very knowledgeable and passionate about the program. It was apparent she loves her job! A very prestigious honor meaning Jim has donated at least $4,000 to Rotary Foundation. Thank you Jim and congratulations! Work got started on our Community Gardens Arbor Project and much progress was made. Various members helped dig post holes on Tuesday afternoon and then erected parts of the fence and arbor entrance on a very chilly Saturday morning. A special thanks to Craig Snyder for the use of his bobcat. It sure makes hole digging go faster! This Week- District Governor Tom Cardwell will join us at our Wednesday evening meeting so please make sure you're there! We will also be selling Grocery Grab tickets at Foodmart on Saturday am from 9 to noon. Janelle is helping coordinate that effort. A sign up sheet for this will be emailed to all members later this week. |
