Last Tuesday’s meeting notes:
Senator Laura Ebke and Lorraine Horky spoke to us about the youth cabin.  They are a part of a volunteer committee that oversees all events and maintenance to the grounds.  Tom Parker and Craig Snyder are members of the board as well.  The cabin serves many groups and organizations from boy/girl scouts to groups from Doane University.  The space can be rented for a small fee and those profits are used to keep up the building.  So far, all repairs needed have been purchased with these funds, but in recent years, our Rotary club has received two grants at the district level to help in other ways.  Last year picnic tables were built and installed on cement pads. This year the chimney and sidewalk renovations are under way.    

Their long term vision for the cabin is to see the roof fixed, maintain the buildings with sufficient funds, and become incorporated.  If you'd like more information about the youth cabin, reach out to Tom and Craig or get in touch with Senator Ebke. 

 

Geoff Easton's ticket was drawn, but the Queen of Spades remains hidden.  He donated his eight dollar winnings to the dictionary fund.  Next week, the pot starts at $142.

 

Sign up to help out at the Pumpkin Festival this year!  We need help at the Chamber’s information booth and at our own booth selling grocery grab tickets and chances on a picnic table.  

 

Crete Library & Community Center--The opportunity to vote on a community center in Crete will come on November's election ballot.  This community center will provide library services as well as a storm shelter in severe weather.  We will have more information on this center in future meetings.

 

Dictionaries have been delivered to all third graders at Crete Elementary, St. James, and Dorchester.  Thanks to Cody Vance, Trevor Cyboron, Jack Garrison, Mary Garrison, Geoff Easton and Jim Fahrnbruch for making the deliveries.

 

Youth Cabin Grant Project:  As the weather improves, we will keep you up to date on work we need to accomplish on this project.

 

Members responsible for programs at meetings for October are Tom S. and Jill M.; for November, Mary G. and Jim J.

 

We need a volunteer to put Ann Howard's desk on Craig’s list.  Let either Jim F. or Tom S. know if you're interested.  

 

Our club now has a Facebook page!  If you are on Facebook, simply search Crete Rotary Club and like our page.  Don't forget to share on our own page to get the word out!  An event is created for the Pumpkin festival if you'd like to share that, as well.  Janelle McGinnis, Mariana Garcia, and Alec Engebretson will all be admins in the upcoming weeks, so if you have suggestions for the page, let one of them know.  It's brand new, so any ideas are welcomed.

 

Schedule:

Sept. 21st--World Dish Potluck and Immigration 101--High school Commons from 6-8pm.  This will take the place of our Wednesday meeting.  Bringing a dish is not required but encouraged.

Sept. 28th--Social meeting at the Brewhouse (tentatively).  Stay tuned as we get closer to the date for more details.

Oct. 2nd--Great Pumpkin Festival--10:30am-4pm.  Sign up for our information booth and/or club booth.
