This week we heard from Quincey Johnson, a senior at Doane and Doane Relay For Life Executive Committee member. She has a major in History, and a minor in English with dreams of going to Law school after graduating. She shared some of the history of Doane relay and some statistics. This is Saline County's 30th year of Doane Relay, and this year they're on track to surpass 1 million dollars raised (gross) for the American Cancer Society in our chapter alone! So far they had raised $23,608 and need about $25,600 to reach the 1 million dollar mark! The committee had a goal to raise $35,000 this year and it all goes to the American Cancer Society. Doane was one of the first colleges to host it, and have entertainment throughout the evening, groups selling snacks or drinks. One of the best parts is the Luminaria ceremony where they all place a glow stick in a bag to honor those who have been diagnosed with cancer. They incorporate presentations from survivors and caregivers as well. It's an incredible yearly event, and Crete is lucky to have the leadership to see it continue. This week, members can go to Rotary park at 5:30 and sell baked goods to the kids and parents attending the micro soccer games. We ask that you bring individually wrapped brownies or rice krispie treats to the event or drop them off at Shay's office throughout the day. When we sell out, we're out, and will go out to dinner afterwards. We will not have the lunch social, instead it'll be after the event. We're also hosting a highway cleanup on May 7th at 5:30. Please meet at the CAMC parking lot, and we'll break off into groups from there.
