Our Program last week: Our speaker this week was Tom Hudiburgh of the Saline County Sheriff's department. His special guest was Indy, his Belgium Malanois police service dog. Indy has been with the department for about 3 years and is highly trained. She is trained to detect 4 types of narcotics and also in evidence recovery. She is trained in apprehension--she will bite, but will listen to her officer's commands above all else. She is state and SWAT certified and services many surrounding counties outside of Saline.
She is paid for by donations, not by tax dollars. She does live with Tom and his family but she isn't a typical pet. "All she knows is work" Tom said numerous times, so he must be careful and always mindful of her when she is out of her kennel. When she retires, he plans to buy her from the state since they have such a good bond.
Jack Garrison: Happy Birthday wishes to you, Jack celebrated last Thursday (1/26). Many more!
Drawing: This week our Pot starts at $260.00. Tom Hudiburgh(our speaker) won the draw, but did not find the queen of spades! The deck will start at 19 cards. He donated $15.00 to Polio. We are patiently waiting a winner!
Dues are due! Remember that our semi-annual dues are due ($65). We have to send them in to Rotary International by January 31. Pay to Jim Johnson as soon as possible. Thanks.
Rotary Foundation: We collect for the Foundation’s Annual Fund and Polio Eradication. So far this year we have collected $828 for the Annual Fund. Our goal is $2500. Our goal for Polio is $875, and we have collected $138. The Foundation Committee will be informing you of the activities of the Foundation in the upcoming weeks. Please consider a donation.
Elementary Book Fair Sign-up: We have 3 spots each for the evenings of Monday, Feb. 13 and Thursday, Feb. 16. Each shift is only 1 hour 15 minutes.
Remember: Rotary is a participation activity, not a spectator sport.
