This week we had the pleasure of hosting our District Governor, Kathryn Schubert! She's been a Rotarian since 2009 when she joined the Omaha Suburban club. Her "why" started a year before, however, when she found out her employer, Merrill Lynch, was filing for bankruptcy due to the recession in 2008. She ended up keeping her job among the uncertainty and she realized her desire to do more and give back. She joined Rotary and immediately got involved.
Through her years she's held many positions at both the club and district level: club board, past president, trustee and chair of the Suburban Rotary Charitable foundation, Sergeant-at-arms, membership development and fundraising chair at Suburban Rotary, district membership chair, chair of the DEI committee, and now: our 23-24 District Governor.
Kathryn is encouraged by RI President, Gordon McInally, to spread the importance of mental health, inviting any and all individuals to the table to change the stigma and feel welcomed. In addition, Kathryn is passionate about empowering the young girls. So many girls in the world have no control over their bodies, safety, and future. She wants to change that and begin to help give them opportunities to thrive in the future.
Thank you for joining us, Kathryn! We can't wait to see what your year accomplishes as we all help make District 5650 "the best district in the universe!"
And many thanks to those members who brought food and place setting items for our potluck meal for the Governor’s visit. It was terrific!
The club will be working on several items leading up to our next meeting on August 23rd. We are getting our Grocery Grab sponsors, both old and new, lined up so that we can get tickets printed.
We also need to be preparing to select our 2023 Golden Wheel honoree. If you have an idea for a qualified candidate for the award,
please let Jenn Lampila know.
Have a great Week.
