This week: Our First Annual Rotary Fundraising Event at The Brew House will be held this Wednesday August 9th starting at 5:30 lasting until about 8:00. We have had a good number of members sign up to help staff the event but need every one's assistance. Marty Fye and The Brew House are donating all of the food and chef labor to help the club raise money towards our Community Garden Arbor Grant Project. The event is open to all and the meal is free. We will ask for a “free will” donation. Water and tea will be included with the meal. The bar will be open for anyone that would like to buy a beer, soda, or glass of wine. Any money we raise will mean we will have more in our club account to be able to do other charitable efforts in the coming year.
Plan on being at The Brew House a little before 5:30 so we can determine who will help with what. And please make sure everyone you know is aware of the event!

Rotary Dues: First half of our club dues ($65) can be paid now and should be paid prior to Sept.1. You can also pay the full year dues ($130) if you wish.
Last Week’s Meeting:
Kayleigh Schadwinkel with the Crete Chamber came to speak to us about the upcoming Saline Solar Shadow. This is the first total solar eclipse in about 40 years and is said to be the best eclipse of the century! The eclipse 40 years ago only included the Pacific Northwest, this one spans the continental US! The experience is described as what midnight without a moon feels like, but in the middle of the afternoon. The Crete/Wilber viewing is some of the longest totality viewing in the state of Nebraska. They encourage individuals viewing the eclipse to wear the solar eclipse glasses for eye protection. There is a partial totality 90 minutes before and after the total eclipse where it's recommended the glasses are worn.
The Crete and Wilber Chamber are joining forces to create a memorable experience for all. On Saturday, August 19th, the events will happen in Crete. Sunday, August 20th, Wilber will host all events. On Monday, August 21st, both towns will host identical events so spectators can have the same experience. Events are posted on the Crete and Wilber chamber websites and face book pages. The eclipse viewing is officially at Armory Park on 1st St, but Tom Parker and the Youth Cabin Board would like to invite everyone to the Youth Cabin for this event. It will open around 11 am on the 21st, and a light lunch will be provided. The cabin sits halfway between Crete and Wilber so the view will be as good (if not better) than in Crete and Wilber. Club members Tom Parker and Craig Snyder have asked for the club’s help in staffing the Youth Cabin Open House event on Sunday afternoon August 20th. It will showcase all of the improvements they have completed at the cabin and hopefully take in some donations. More info will be coming! This event will take the place of our regular meeting that week.
