November 11 – Regular meeting at Doane.  Mary Garrison will lead a presentation about the Rotary Foundation.  NOTE:  There will be a Veteran’s Day celebration after the meeting at 7:00PM in Doane’s Heckman Auditorium.  This can be a two-for-one evening.

 

November 18 – Regular meeting at Doane.  We will have a program on polio, including several polio survivors.

 

November 25 – No meeting.  Happy Thanksgiving

John Lothrop won the drawing and designated both his portion and the contribution portion for PolioPlus.  To the feigned dismay of everyone, John did not win the accumulated pot.

 

We have now poured concrete pads for all of the tables and have placed nine tables – four at Rotary Park, two at the dog park, and three (of six) at the Youth/Scout Cabin.  Thanks to everyone who has participated in this project.

 

Last week, we thought we would have $500 left after all expenses had been paid and there was discussion about building more tables.  We have since received our final bill for lumber and we are down to $10.  Tom Parker assured us that he will spend all of that on hardware for the last tables, so we will not build any more.

 

We will hold onto the “prototype” table that Tom built on the chance that we could use it as a display and sell some tables to raise more money next spring.  If that does not work out, we can see if the city would like it to place in City Park near the new fountain.

 

There are only four weeks until the drawing!!  We need to be selling them at every opportunity.

 

Several people have not yet picked up any tickets to sell.  Remember that we are asking each member to either sell or purchase at least two books (10 tickets).  This is our primary fundraising event.  Without this, we will not be able to give scholarships to students and would not have been able to do the picnic table project.  Please pick up your tickets to sell from Chris Duntz at the Edward Jones office on Highway 33. 

 

 

If you want an opportunity to sell tickets, Peter Clarke has said that we can sell in front of Food Mart.  Peter suggested that Friday afternoons and Saturdays are the busiest shopping times.

 

John Lothrop has posters that we can use when selling tickets.  Contact John if you want to use them.  The posters are shown below.  One is a generic version that can be used from year to year.  A matching poster in Spanish has also been printed.  The second contains specific details for the 2015 Grocery Grab and is bi-lingual.  Flyers are available to members to distribute.

 

Heath Stukenholtz (VP of the Tabitha Foundation) introduced Joyce Ebmeier (Sr. VP of Strategic Planning) who described the project of building two “small houses” to provide skilled care facilities.  The two houses are being built at 13^th Street and Iris Avenue in Crete and should be ready for occupancy by August, 2016.  There is space on the site to build a third house as warranted in the future.

 

The houses will replace the Tabitha of Crete facility currently located in the old hospital building.  Tabitha will continue to provide assisted living at The Gardens, one block west of the new houses.

 

The “small houses” are similar to the trademarked concept of Greenhouses which provide skilled level care for 12 residents.  Tabitha’s small houses in Crete will be slightly larger with 17 rooms and a capacity of 19 residents.  Various studies have shown that housing people in the smaller facilities yields better health care results than larger institutional-style setting.

 

According to Heath, the skilled care small houses in Crete will possibly be the first in the nation in a rural setting.
