January 16, 2016 – Instead of a regular meeting on January 13, we will gather as a group for the activities at the grand opening of the new Crete High School on Saturday, January 16. Events include girl’s and boy’s basketball games, induction of Crete public schools Hall of Fame members, and an open house for the new school. The girl’s game will start at 2:00pm and the boy’s game will start at 4:00pm. The Hall of Fame induction will be at half-time of the boy's game, and the open house will follow the game at approximately 6:00pm.
January 20, 2016 – Crete living presentation by Crete Ambassadors.
January 27, 2016 – Downtown revitalization update.

Paul Harris Recognition:
Mary and Jack Garrison were recognized as Paul Harris +2 Fellows, signifying that they have each made total contributions of the initial $1,000 plus additional gifts of at least $2,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Thanks Mary and Jack for your dedication and support.
Grocery Grab Wrap-Up:
We had a successful 5th annual Grocery Grab. The winner was Maricruz Andrade. She filled a grocery cart at Food Mart on Saturday, December 12. The total cost of her groceries was $471.11.

Sponsorships were $250 and included the sponsors name on the tickets and advertising plus 10 tickets for the contest. Financial Discussion:
The wrap-up of the Grocery Grab led to a discussion about distribution of additional gift cards. In the past, we have given approximately $400 to the Blue River Food Pantry.

The following items were also discussed:
- It was suggested that the Club make a contribution to the Rotary Foundation for a designated project in Kenya in memory of Mary Howard. This contribution would augment a gift from Ann and Ed Howard. We agreed to not make a club contribution at this time but to encourage Rotarians to make individual gifts.
- We have filed an application for a local Wal-Mart grant to reimburse the club for picnic table expenses. A grant for $2,500 was tentatively approved and forwarded to Wal-Mart corporate headquarters. Stay tuned.
Club Assembly:
Our discussion of finances replaced our Club Assembly.
Picnic Table Report:
Our final report for the picnic table project was filed with District 5650 in December. We placed 12 tables around Crete at Rotary Park (4), Waggin Tails Dog Park (2), and the Youth/Scout Cabin (6). Contact John Lothrop if you would like a copy of the report.
Total expenses were $4,079.11 (see details below). We received a Rotary District 5650 grant for $2,000 and the remainder came from the Club treasury. Also as noted above, we have applied for a grant from Wal-Mart to reimburse the club for our portion of the picnic table expenses.
