Crete Rotary Club Crete, NE |
Barbara unfortunately was ill on Wednesday so we weren't able to hear her moving presentation about her experience in Ukraine. Clay (our Assistant Governor) and Rob Simmon (lead Assistant Governor) were able to share many of the housekeeping items Barbara touches on during her visits. Here are some highlights: - Community Assessment--are the projects we do in our community doing as much as we think? A community assessment found on the Rotary International homepage is a great tool to identify the needs of our community so we can be more effective.
- Visioning--what does our club want to be when we grow up? Without a clear focus and direction, it's hard to know our identity and what we want to accomplish. A team of visioning facilitators capture our ideas and give them back in a cohesive way.
- Youth programs--getting high school and college students involved in our club and the community. They don't have to be start an official rotaract or interact club, but inviting them to come to a meeting or a service project is a great start to have them see what Rotary is all about.
- Committees--The district leadership chairs are trying to get committee chairs from each club to attend virtual calls to keep everyone up to date on the district level. Some of the committees include: service, programs DEI, public image, polio, foundation, and more. If you're interested in becoming a club committee chair or attending these calls, let Janelle know.
- District Conference--it will be the weekend of April 22nd in Lincoln this year. A new award, the Golden Wheel award, will be given to community members that have supported out clubs efforts, helped with projects, been a major contributor, etc the past year. It's the District's hope that each club will have one community member receive the award. They don't have to be a Rotarian, either! Anyone in the community is eligible!
Be thinking on all of these topics in anticipation for Barbara's rescheduled meeting (TBD).
