Rotary for Fall 2020

Crete Rotary is back to some normal activities as members feel comfortable. Please note the schedule of upcoming activities in this newsletter to stay up to date.

Two important announcements from club members are still worthy of celebrating even though they happened in March and July. Vince Krejci and wife Casey welcomed their daughter Riley, who was born in March. Congratulations! Chris (Duntz) married Marc Wittstruck at Crete Berean Church on July 24. Congratulations!

Jim J. arranged reprinting of Grocery Grab tickets and we will move forward with the 2020 grab and draw the winning ticket on Oct. 28. The actual grocery grab will be at Crete Foodmart on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The new tickets are blue and will be distributed by Jim J. from his home (1860 Fairchild) or by delivery and by Chris at the Edward Jones office (west). Please make sure you fill out a corresponding new ticket for anyone who bought an original ticket and turn in any old tickets or simply do not use them.

Our meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15 was another attempt to catch up on our upcoming schedule and grocery grab planning.

Chris is organizing purchase and delivery of dictionaries to third graders at Crete Intermediate, St. James, and Dorchester schools. We will print a write-up about Rotary to include in each dictionary in place of not being able to visit classrooms in person.

Jim F. gave an update on Rotary Foundation giving. For the year 2019-20, the club fell somewhat short of our total goal, but has donations on behalf of each member. He will talk more about the Foundation at a later meeting as well as encourage members to consider automatic donations from a bank account. He also talked about a donation made through our club to the Foundation in memory of Mary Howard, a Crete native and daughter of Ed and Ann Howard, who worked for Rotary in Evanston, Ill.

Highway cleanup is scheduled for this Wednesday, Sept. 23, starting from the CAMC parking lot at 5 p.m. Thank you to Tom S. for arranging signage and garbage bags.

Our next activity after this week will be volunteering at Crete’s Great Pumpkin Festival. Members will staff an information booth at 12th and Main. We realize several members have commitments elsewhere at the festival and certainly encourage the overall participation in this community-wide event. Please sign up for a shift or part of one if you are able. Friends and family of Rotary are welcome as well. Rotary’s contributions here are very much appreciated.
