Crete Rotary Club
Crete, Nebraska
Regular Meeting Notes from Wednesday meeting:
The Saline County Fair is right around the corner. It is and always has been one of our club's most active service projects. Signup sheets were passed around at the meeting for volunteers to help take tickets at the Figure 8 Races on Thursday evening, July 17th. We will also help at the beer garden that night in two shifts. Then on the mornings of July 18th, 19th and 20th we will collect plastic and aluminum recycling. If you have not signed up yet, please reach out to Janelle or Shay. These service projects always go faster and are more fun with a large member participation and truly represent our motto of "Service above self"!
The Crete Rotary Club had the pleasure and privilege to recognize member Jim Fahrnbruch who received the Paul Harris + 6 award from The Rotary International Foundation. Jim has been an ardent financial supporter of the RI Foundation for all of his many years of membership. Thank you, Jim, and thank you also to Jim's wife Jane who attended the meeting and has always supported Jim's service to our club.

Our program was presented by member Janelle Snodgrass. Janelle shared some pictures and memories of her trip to Ireland in December 2023-January 2024. She learned about the opportunity through a YouTube content creator she follows, Samantha March. Samantha was approached by a Las Vegas tour company called Atomic Trips to host a group trip to Ireland. She opened it up to her community, and 12 women from across the country (and Norway) said “Yes”. Some highlights include the following:
- Meeting 12 strangers from across the country (and Norway) who are now her friends!
- Touring the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, Ireland
- Spending 3 nights in a 15th century Irish Castle
- Ringing in the New Year in Galway, Ireland with her new friends
- Seeing many notable landmarks such as: Blarney Castle, Cliffs of Moher, Rock of Cashel, Killarney National Park
Since the trip, the group has traveled to Chicago (all except 2 of the original group), and 5 of them will meet up in Kansas City in July!

Thank you, Janelle, for the wonderful presentation!
See you at the next meeting at Doane on Wednesday July 9th.
