Crete Rotary
Crete, Nebraska

Last Week- We held a regular meeting on Tuesday noon at TBH. 15 members attended and Justin won the drawing and donated $14 to our Scholarship Fund but he did not draw the Queen. So our pot grows to $53 and were on our way to a big number again! The highlight of the meeting was the "official" induction of Gatsby Solheim as a member of the Crete Rotary Club. Welcome Gatsby!!
Officer Gary Young with the Crete Police Department shared information with us about what to do in the event of an active shooter.  He outlined three options:

Run—if you can get out, do.  Bring along everyone you can, but don’t wait on their indecision.

Hide—Get out of sight, go to a secured location.  Barricade the door and lock it if possible.

Fight—Use any weapon available to beat or injure the shooter.  This can be fire extinguishers, chairs, small tables, etc.  Officer Young made it clear the decision to fight is solely your own.  Many people do not feel comfortable fighting back, and that’s ok.  If you are not mentally prepared to fight, you probably shouldn’t.  Choose one of the first two options if that’s the case.

He said Crete Schools and Doane University have lock down drills in the event of a shooter.  Crete schools, additionally, has Dawn Jonas to serve as a School Resource officer in the schools.  It was informative to know what Crete Schools and the Crete Police Department are doing to keep our schools and community safe.  Thank you for your time and information, Officer!
