Crete Rotary Club
Crete, Nebraska

At our meeting this week we heard from Stan Croft who heads the Crete Success Academy--Crete's alternative education program.  He's in his 5th year in Crete, and before this has taught in other districts including Omaha.  The Success Academy is for a variety of students including those that have fallen behind and need to gain credits to graduate for whatever reason, need a smaller space or class size, are transients, or just refuse to participate in the regular high school classroom.  The overall goal of the program is ultimately to help students graduate with a diploma.  In addition, however, other benefits include creating a better space for students to learn, serving the entire community, and using resources available in the best way possible.  It was evident during his presentation that he truly does care about the students and want to see them succeed--even sharing some success stories!  Thank you for sharing your passion for the students with us, Stan.

A signup sheet for volunteers to help at the annual Crete Chamber of Commerce/CAMC Easter Egg Hunt was passed around at the meeting. However, we still need 2 or 3 members to help out. It occurs on Saturday April 8th from 12:30 to 2:00 at CAMC. Please let Janelle know if you can help!

Members are asked to contemplate ideas for a grant project for the coming year. We need to be making decisions about this in the next month. Please bring your ideas to the next meeting or email Jack or Janelle.

Several members are planning to attend the Rotary District 5650 Conference this coming Friday and Saturday in Lincoln. Our Golden Wheel Awardee Russ Sears will be honored at the Saturday evening dinner!

Our next meeting is April 12, at the VFW and Doane University three- time National Champion Wrestler Baggii Boldmaa will be our speaker.

See you then!
