In the spring of 2017 Crete Rotary Club applied for, and received, a matching grant from our Rotary District to make significant improvements to a "resurgent" Community Garden, located at 10th and Thornwood Ave. in Crete, Ne.  The Community Garden offers opportunity for Crete citizens to rent one or more low cost "plots" in which they can plant, raise and harvest all kinds of vegetables and flowers.
The total grant amount was $3000 which went to the purchase of lumber, fasteners, stain, fencing, and various other materials needed to build our new entrance arbor and front fence. All of the labor was supplied by Rotary Club members. Funds for our club's one-half of the matching grant was raised at our "Rotary Night@ The Brew House" community dinner event in August as well as our "Grocery Grab Raffle Ticket" event this fall.
Construction began in late October after the gardening season had come to an end and has proceeded very well. The arbor entrance and front fence are 90% completed and two benches and two potting tables will soon be finished. Our goal is to be completely done by March 1st, 2018.
