This week, Dawn Jonas, School Resource Officer for Crete Public Schools spoke to us. She described what she does and why it's necessary for cities to have an officer in the schools. She's the only one for all four schools, and she doesn't have a set schedule. She likes it that way so criminals don't know when she will be there. She also goes to some sports events if reinforcement is needed, or parent/teacher conferences in case she needs to diffuse an aggressive situation. She would like there to be an officer for every school so she can really get to know the kids, but she does a great job making it to all of them when needed.
