Last Week- 15 members attended our Wednesday evening meeting, plus two guests, David and Gatsby Solheim. Plans for the Grocery Grab "shopping spree on Saturday and our Rotary Christmas party on December 20th were discussed. A sign up sheet for the party was passed around and all attending signed up. For those who could not attend the meeting, we will have the sign up sheet available at this week's meeting. Jenn won the drawing and contributed $8 to our Foundation fund. The accumulating pot lives on. Dulce Castaneda from the City of Crete was our speaker. The following is a synopsis of her program provided by club Secretary Janelle:
Dulce Castaneda spoke to us about a welcoming committee she is involved with in Crete. She doesn't know how long the group has been together, but knows it's been more than three years. She has been a part of it for over one year--when she started her new position with the City of Crete. The idea is to get different members of Crete's sectors to talk about issues and factors affecting new comers to Crete. They meet every month at the UCC church for about an hour. The members are from Crete, Lincoln, and a group from Omaha called "Justice for our Neighbors"
Some topics presenters have spoken on are: biases and addressing them in conversation and interaction, hate crimes and hate speech--how to report it without being afraid to come forward. They have a community presentation every six months or so to educate the community so they have pertinent information they need.
Dulce shared the feedback from immigrants have been positive in regards to Crete. They feel welcomed and are pleased with the jobs, people, and school system here. The biggest challenge, however, is housing. Dulce is open to all suggestions about how to help new comers so do let her know if you have one. She would love to speak with you about the new residents and how to help them!

On Saturday morning bright and early Josh Boggs, our GGrab grand prize winner, parlayed his allotted 5 minutes of shopping time into a cartload of groceries. Ten club members were there to help organize and cheer Josh on. The group then moved to The Brew House to draw (with the help of Jane Fahrnbruch and Patty King) for an additional 70+ secondary winners who received Foodmart gift cards in denominations of $100, $50, and $25.
This Week- We will hold a regular meeting this Tuesday at noon at TBH. Lacey Stewart from Home Instead Health Care will be our program. To keep his old "Presidential" skills sharp, Jim Farhnbruch will run the meeting in my absence. It will be good to whip the group back into shape!
An additional note: Crete Cares could use some help this Saturday at 8am to help pack Christmas boxes for Crete families needing some holiday help. They will do the packing at the Crete Public Schools Bus Barn. It usually only takes about an hour. It is not an "official" Rotary project- but I know they will appreciate any help we can give.
