"Service Above Self"
After a couple of weeks without a regular meeting, I'm happy to remind everyone that we will meet this Wednesday at Doane at 5:30pm!
We have a busy June coming up with several service projects to complete and others to plan for. We need a good turnout of members for three days of work at the Isis Theater. We will be helping to prep and apply coatings to the new stage and auditorium floor. A signup sheet was passed around at the last meeting and will be passed around again at the meeting Wednesday. The work dates are this Friday evening, 5:30 to 8:30, Saturday morning 8:30 to 11:30, and Sunday evening 5:30 to 8:30. Let's do our part to help bring the theater renovation project to a fantastic completion!
News on the grant project front: our club's application was not accepted by the district. The reason for the denial was not because the project we chose was not of merit, but because the district had an unusually high application rate and there were not enough funds to fund all of the grant request. Though disappointing, we can still decide to proceed with the mural project if we can find some additional funding. This topic will be on the agenda for this week's meeting!
We have service projects coming up in July at the Saline County Fair which starts for us on Thursday evening, July 18th with the beer garden and figure eight races. We will also continue as we have for many years with recycling plastic and aluminum on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. There will be more info on these projects including signup sheets later in the month.
Our speaker for the meeting this week is Kevin Zadina, owner and publisher of the Crete News and other community papers in our area. Crete native Jill Wild and her husband John will also be joining us and will take a few minutes to talk about their experience being members of an all-English speaking Rotary club in Mexico.
